This project grew out of my experience of arriving in a new place and, over time, beginning to feel part of it. After living in different countries, I found in Moita dos Ferreiros a quieter rhythm of life and a sense of connection that gradually turned into something deeper.
I was drawn to the people — their presence, their stories, and the way everyday life unfolds in the village. The portraits in this series are of familiar faces, individuals who, in their own way, shape the identity of the place. Each image is the result of a simple exchange, a moment of trust between the subject and the camera.
Visually, the work is influenced by the use of light and shadow found in the Italian Renaissance, particularly the intimacy of Rembrandt lighting. This approach allows me to focus on subtle expressions and emotional depth, creating images that feel both personal and timeless.
More than documenting, this project became a way of connecting — of understanding what it means to belong, and of acknowledging the people who make a place feel like home.
